I will right now admit to bias, because first and foremost I absolutely adore The Olympia Theatre as a venue, I’ve seen some of my favourite gigs there and they have taken what can only be described as a justified hat trick stealing home for the IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Awards 2010.

It was held on January 13th in the IMRO head offices and  The Olympia were presented with IMRO National Live Music Venue of the Year Award (as voted by IMRO members and the public) and the IMRO Dublin Live Music Venue of the Year Award AND also received the publicly voted Hot Press Live Music Venue of the Year Award. Quiet the hat trick.

The awards were hosted by the hilarious Paddy Courtney and featured a performance by the Choice Music Prize nominated Fight Like Apes, not a bad evenings entertainment. The awards also tipped the hat to IMRO Rest of Leinster Music Venue of the Year to the Spirit Store in Dundalk, Roisin Dubh for Connaught Venue of the Year, The Pavilion Cork for Munster Venue and Iontas Theatre in Monaghan took Ulster Venue of the Year.

Hotpress Readers also gave commendation awards to The Workmans Club in Dublin and Tommy Leddy Theatre in Drogheda.
