Despite still not having a substantial body of work released, the crowd that packed into Whelan’s on Thursday night are testament to the talent of All Tvvins. The following they’ve garnered is well deserved and this show just served to solidify this fact.

Before the duo of Conor Adams and Lar Kaye took to stage, there were two support acts to warm the crowd up. Adams’ brother Neil opened the show with his new electronic project, Extra Fox. While it was initially strange to see him without a guitar, his use of the various music making paraphernalia that surrounded him quickly changed that. The bass synth literally shook the walls while the vocals added another interesting element.

Following Extra Fox was an eccentric lady by the name of Raindear. She described the name as: “Rain, as in rain and dear as in darling.” which certainly cleared up any ambiguity. The airy synthesized music was led by captivating female vocals and the poppy choruses possessed a strange raw edge.

By the time All Tvvins took to the stage, the anticipation had built to the point where it could be felt surging around the room. The pair were in flying form and danced their way through the set. Adams’ voice was a little bit worse for wear initially, which was understandable after being at SXSW just days before the show. Opening with the explosive Book, the rather short show took flight.

Current single Thank You received the best response of the night as the crowd danced and sang along in harmony. The duo of Know Go and Two Worlds provoked an infectious amount of grooving in front of the stage that was mirrored by Adams and Kaye on stage. The light sequencing also added a different element to the show, one which you really don’t see enough of anymore.

Some of the newer tracks boast very Adebisi Shank-esque guitar riffs from Kaye while still retaining the innovative All Tvvins style. Even songs that the crowd didn’t know as well as others were received well, and it’s evident that when the pair do (eventually…) release an album, it’ll have no shortage of listeners.

All Tvvins are undoubtedly one of the most exciting Irish bands around at the minute, and if they keep putting on gigs like this it’s very unlikely that this mantle will slip. There’s something special about their upbeat hooks and driving rhythm sections that’s hard to put your finger on but it’s undeniable that this is certainly a band that will go places.
