2020 Plec Pick Ciara Lindsey, better known as the self described “rowdy pop” artist Kynsy has shared a commentary podcast dissecting the making of and meaning behind each track on her 2021 breakout EP ‘Things That Don’t Exist’.

A clear front runner for one of the best Irish releases of the year so far, ‘Things That Don’t Exist’ explores the social media fuelled anxieties of late modernity over intricate guitar lines and booming drums.

The indie-rock EP, which features the highly endearing lead single Elephant In The Room received a four-star review from GoldenPlec earlier this year.

The EP started out being this collection of songs that I had written and recorded at home and in my bedroom,” says Kynsy on her podcast.

The reason why I chose the four-songs on the EP was that I felt each had a contrasting high energy, and every song had it’s own force. Each song held so much juxtaposition within the music and the lyrics and that’s something I really wanted to highlight on this EP.

I found that the songs also had very interlinking themes of the lyrics highlighting anxiety and melancholy, but there’s also a sense of hope and an uplifting energy to each song. I think if you’re going to write songs there needs to be some kind of hopeful energy or bright side out of the dark.
