This week’s round-up of the best new Irish music contains an unexpected supergroup and a collaboration we’ve been waiting for with bated breath. Greenhill’s finest son and producer to the stars Jacknife Lee has hooked up with Lol Tolhurst (The Cure) and Budgie (Siouxsie & The Banshees) to create the most unexpected supergroup of recent times. Debut single features JAmes Murphy of LCD Soundsytem on vocals. Not too shabby, eh?

Also on the collaboration train are Róisín Murphy and Jessie Ware, who have combined to rework Ware’s recent release Freak Me Now. Hopefully there will be more to come from this fabulous pairing.

It’s great to have PlecPick 2023 artist Cruel Sister back with her new single Hands ahead of the release of her second EP Turgis this September, catch her at ATN next weekend. Hotly tipped post punk outfit Naked Lungs have delivered the drilling ‘River (Doom)’ from their upcoming debut album ‘Doomscroll’ (August 18th).

Following the release of this year’s ‘Highways & Hurricanes’ EP Moncrieff returns with polished pop ballad ‘Love Somebody’, Robert Grace enlists his son Lincoln for this week’s cutest release ‘Casper’, and trying to muscle in on the balladeer action is Isaac Butler with his latest ‘On The Run’.

Old school singer songwriters Glen Hansard and Mick Flannery return with ‘The Feast of St. John’ and ‘Morning Rain’ respectively, while Belfast’s Gareth Dunlop inches closer to the top table with the Joe Cocker-esque ‘Lay It Down (On The King)’.

Outsider YP and Jordan Adetunji continue to blur the lines between rock, hip hop and dance on their latest singles ‘No One’ and ‘Things You Do’, while Skull The Pierre delivers more of his unique laid-back flavour on ‘Bebeyx3’.

Naoise Roo meanwhile rides that cowboy wave in her own inimitable way on ‘Sacred Cow’, while BIMM student Nara dumps her man and sends him for a chiken filet roll on ‘Scarlet’. The Neon Cars deliver another radio friendly slice of indie pop on ‘The Way It’s Always Been’ while Soft Boy supremo Kean Kavanagh laments his mystery medical problems on ‘The Magic’.

There’s also new tunes from Rryan Mack, Crybabyamy, Dec Pierce, Neve, Aislinn Logan, Louise Gaffney, Dunluvly, Jossle, Roo Elizabeth, Glasseyed, Under Starling, Conor Furlong, Sea High, Locklin, Ard Ó and more besides.
