Ok well we all know you’ll long enough be hearing about Christmas and in general we avoid talk of Christmas until December but this needs to be mentioned early and as with last year is out exception to the rule.

Christmas FM. That unique radio station of pure Christmas tunes is attempting for the second year to run a Christmas song contest in the run up to their launch for 2010. The radio station is pure charity, which is another reason why we love it, and aims to raise over €100,000 for charity this year.

Once again they are looking to Irish bands and songwriters to write a yuletide masterpiece and if yours is good enough it could appear on the stations playlist alongside a host of classic Christmas themed hits. You must submit your masterpiece in MP3 format, through the Christmas FM Website -> Submit Here <- Closing date is Sunday 28th November. The winner will be chosen by Christmas FM listeners, with proceeds from SMS text votes going to Barnardos. The shortlisted songs will be playlisted.

In 2009 over 100 original entries were recieved and thousands of listeners texted in to vote and in the process donating to the top charity. ‘This Christmas’ by Kildare band, Funzo eventually emerged as the winner. This year it could be you. The overall winner gets the song professionally recorded, €500 in vouchers and playlisted by Christmas FM.

Walter Hegarty, Technical Director for Christmas FM had this to say -“We are delighted to announce the return of our Christmas Song contest for 2010.  The contest proved hugely popular with songwriters and Christmas FM listeners alike in 2009, with over 100 musicians submitting entries. We have a wealth of songwriting talent in Ireland, as evident by the high standard of entries for last year’s contest. We’re hoping that this Christmas, Irish musicians will come up trumps once again and support Barnardos by crafting a cracker of a song!”.

On air 24 hours a day from late November to the end of December, Christmas FM will return in an expanded format this year, broadcasting throughout Dublin and Cork and for the first time Galway, Limerick and the South East. The charity station hopes to raise over €100,000 for Barnardos, its dedicated charity partner for 2010.
