After a number of failed attempts (Whelan’s 2021 and 3Olympia Theatre 2022), Black Country, New Road, who are arguably the most exciting band to come out of Britain since those lads whose hype you shouldn’t believe, are set to make their Irish debut in May 2023.

After their Whelan’s headline show succumbed to Covid-19 regulations, and the replacement show at 3Olympia was cancelled after lead singer Isaac Wood left the band due to personal mental health reasons, Irish fans have been left longing to see the now six-piece for what feels like forever but their (and my) prayers have finally been answered.

Sadly, for those who are big fans of the band’s first two albums, none of this material is being played by the band since Woods’ departure. However, and GoldenPlec can attest to this having recently seen BC, NR (as they are more affectionately known) playing live in Brighton, the new material that the band are touring is every bit as beautiful and powerful as their previous material. Vocals are now shared between May Kershsaw, Tyler Hyde and Lewis Evans and, while Isaac Woods will always be missed, the new format has led to the band breaking even newer ground and they undoubtedly will solidify their position as Britain’s best band when they finally get these new tunes into the studio. Have a listen to a bootleg album put together from various gigs the band have performed over the past nine months below.

If you want to catch Black Country, New Road in the flesh, tickets for the Dublin show on May 5th 2023 go on sale this Friday (16th December) at €24.50. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
