Ho ho ho ho! Welcome to the Christmasy edition of Plec Picks!

This week’s a bit different than normal here with The Plec Picks. (listen to older playlists here) This week we’ve all chosen our favourite Christmas songs to get you in the mood for Christmas! (Exactly one week, folks :D) If these songs don’t get you in the mood then you must be related to the Grinch. It’s the only possibility!

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening. Neat!

As always, we hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition!

What’s in there?

Bruce Springsteen // Santa Claus is Coming To Town (Chosen by Kieran Frost)

It’s the boss, singing Santa Clause is Coming To Town…. possibly, the most amazing cover ever….

The Darkness // Christmas Time (Chosen by Sean Smyth & Bernard O’Rourke)

This is truly the guilty pleasure that puts all others to shame. Somehow the Darkness managed to outdo the cheesiness factor of every other Christmas song ever recorded, and I think its fair to say that the results speak for themselves.

John Denver // Aspenglow (Chosen by Niall Swan)

John Denver’s Christmas Album is probably the most played Christmas album in my household. Aspenglow is a stunning original festive tune. Simple, yet beautiful.

Judy Garland // Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Chosen by Claire Kane)

Judy Garland has the most wonderful voice and this song is from one of my all time favourite films.

The Pogues & Kirsty MacColl // Fairytale Of New York (Chosen by Aisling O’ Brien)

Tabernacle Choir // Carol of the Old Ones (Chosen by Justin McDaid)

This was introduced to me not so long ago – as a HP Lovecraft fan its a winner, as a Christmas song…same thing. File it under weird cosmic Christmas incantations

Darlene Love // All Alone this Christmas (Chosen by Aisling O’ Brien)

The Dirty 9s // I?nto the Winter’s Night? (Chosen by Deirdre Harrison)

A little slower than your average Christmas song but an absolute beauty of a tune none the less. A finalist in the Christmas FM song competition this year, and it is easy to see why. One of the most perfect Irish Christmas songs ever recorded.

Sufjan Stevens // That was the worst Christmas(Chosen by Debbie Hickey)

The most depressing and most beautiful Xmas song of them all

Julian Casablancas // I Wish It Was Christmas Today (Chosen by Kevin Donnellan)

Upbeat song by cool musician expressing inarguable sentiment. Can’t ask for much more from a novelty festive tune.
