An eventful week for Sepp Blatter has ended with him signing a three EP deal with FIFA Records. The Cork based record label are said to be “delighted” with the signature of the Swiss avant-garde trance music pioneer. Best known as a sports administrator Blatter originally made his name as an artist collaborating with DJ Chuck Blazer before focusing on football.
Blatter recently stepped down from FIFA to recommence his music career and FIFA records (not a subsidiary) seemed the obvious choice. When asked why he chose FIFA Records, Blatter said “it was for the transparency of the deal and complete artistic freedom to do as I please. I’m also a fan of The Vincent(s) and The Frank and Walters so it was a no brainer to be on the same label as them. ”
However, what Blatter failed to mention was the financial aspect of the deal. Insider’s have leaked to GoldenPlec that the three EP deal has an advance of somewhere between €5 to €16.50, though it’s thought this may not cover distribution or touring costs. Blatter is well known for touring, though his popularity as an artist strangely remains confined to Asia (big in Japan) and Africa. Like Oasis, he just never took off in the USA.
When asked about the deal, Blatter’s rival John Delaney begrudgingly admitted “I approve” before following up that he would like to see Blatter include Nadia Forde as a guest vocalist at some point. It would be a strange mix seeing the Irish wannabe pop princess get involved with the ageing Swiss pioneer. Then again who would have thought LL Cool J and Brad Paisley would turn out to be so good.
