At first listen Jason Clarke has it all, a beautiful voice that just draws you in and a four song EP that captures the alluring charm of the singer/ songwriter. The fact he is incredibly handsome doesn’t go against him either. A further listen to the EP and it proves to be a middle of the road pop record, but a good first attempt none the less.

The title track Sparks is one you could take or leave. A quiet song that could be easily forgotten it lacks any real enthusiasm. Lovin’ you is a feel good song that the more I listened to the more I loved it. One of those songs that you know when you hear on day time radio you will turn it up with a smile. This song puts him rightfully alongside the likes of Paolo Nuitini and other big names which he previously supported.

A bit more upbeat, Get a little high is a song about not giving up on what you believe in. It’s a little cliché, but not a bad song really. The final song is Atmosphere which is just that, background atmospheric music that you would only half listen too. It drags in places and has no real enthusiasm.

I really want to love this guy, he has a captivating voice to match his charisma but the EP feels like a lot of words with no real emotion. Nobody can fault the Belfast singer he has an amazing voice and with the right sensitivity he really could make a great album. Lovin you proves he has the potential to make quality music but there is the danger he can fall by the way side with some mediocre songs. I hope we hear more from Jason Clarke in the future as he believes himself his songs are constantly evolving and he is working hard to improve.
