Every couple of weeks, we at Goldenplec, give you a quick run down of some of the singles that have made their way to GP Towers.

Here’s what was in the pigeon hole this time round.

Babybeef: Music

‘Music’ is the first single from Babybeef’s eponymous debut album. Electronica with Eighties stylings, music is a bit of an ear worm that gets in your head and stays there. The tracks has all the bells and whistles associated with an eighties electronica track and also boosts a pumping bass line. Can’t wait to hear more.

Sweet Jane: Close Your Eyes

Taken from their album ‘Sugar for the Soul’ this is actually quite soothing. Driving drums, great vocals, good song structure, nice melody, great production. Sweet Jane are definitely one of Ireland’s best bands. Do I have to say much more than ‘Press Repeat’?

Rook and The Ravens: Alpha

Rook and The Ravens are a band from Deerpark, near Manchester, who have recently made Dublin a second home. Their new single ‘Alpha’ sees the band is flying form, there’s no messing around here as in super swift time, we’re into the vocals. The quintet have some great harmonies and musically as solid throughout. The tracks features a nice build up to the chorus and some nifty guitar work. Can I hear more please?

The Gorgeous Colours: The Creatures Down Below

The title track from the EP of the same name is starts with what sounds like an old typewriter, before piano and a simple rhythm section kicks in. The track is fairytale-esque and features clever vocal lines and hooks. Expect this to be all over your radiobox.

Fiach: Dignity

Dublin based singer songwriter’s latest offering is a mid tempo-ed track Dignity. It’s a bit of a grower and builds up nicely to its chorus. Fiach uses a full band sound here with some really nice string arrangements and a surprise harmonica. The track breaks down to just vocals and simple guitar before building back up at the end of the track. Another solid track from Fiach.

Meljoann: So Academic

‘So Academic’ is the lead track from the album “Squick’. Meljoann is another Irish female electronic artist. Think electronica, Prince style, mixed with a little Janet Jackson vocals and some Jam/Terry production. Really interesting. Can’t wait to see what way this artist goes.
