Along with the likes of CMAT and April, the emergence of Kynsy has been one of the Irish musical highlights of 2020. Captivating debut single ‘Cold Blue Light’ saw Kynsy – real name Ciara Lindsey – set our her stall as an accomplished indie rock songwriter with a mid-paced exploration of bullying.

New single ‘Happiness isn’t a Fixed State’ sees her channel her inner Julian Casablancas to great effect with big bass and even bigger guitars adorning the catchy chorus hook of ‘I have so much left to feel” in impressive fashion.

“It’s a tug of war between the positive and negative thought processes that occur when a relationship ends. It’s about accepting the fact that sometimes you have to laugh the pain away or look at negativity head on in order to feel positive emotions and have positive thoughts again,” explains Kynsy, of the track for which she also directed the video.

Filmed by Tim Shearwood, the video features Kynsy and friends play-acting at being KISS style rockers performing in a local park before eventually attempting to take their masks off. “I wanted to try and create the same sort of balance of ideas, it needed to be fun and playful but with moments of emotional vulnerability in there too, a sort of yin and yang of simple fun against complex emotions.”
