On this week’s round-up of the best new Irish music we present for your consideration the debut album from Ra Gerra and EPs from The Academic, Joshua Burnside & Laura Quirke and some blissful instrumentals from Paddy Mulcahy.

The standout release of the week comes courtesy of Ra Gerra – the collaborative hip hop album from Kobina and Murli – which sees narolane’s quiet man step centre stage and open up about his life like never before.

Hot on the heels of her debut EP ‘Fishbowl’, Lucy Blue returns with Taxi Driver, while The Academic return with radio friendly indie pop number Not Your Summer (check out their new EP ‘Community Summer’ below). Other pop moments of note come from Ryan Mack, Curtis Walsh, Apollo Monroe and Uppbeat.

As well as Ra Garra’s debut album ‘New Vessels’, Irish hip hop is in fine fettle with Tebi Rex (Deadman II), A92 (Mamacita Go), wtf (Hold’em Back), and WillZee (No Remorse). David Keenan leads the charge in a busy field of singer/songwriter releases (well it is Ireland after all) with Sentimental Dole from his upcoming second album ‘What Then?’, Joshua Burnside and Laura Quirke deliver collaborative EP ‘In The Half-Light’, and there are welcome debuts from west of Ireland folk duo Laytha (When Will I Gain) and ex-Prescriptions frontman Niall Brennan shares Like A Rose, from his upcoming EP which was the last project produced by Gavin Ralston before he passed away.

On the rock scene Odd Morris return with their first release of 2021, The Once Was Enough, Cork’s Pretty Happy apply copious amounts of Sudocream and NI’s finest Cherym declare We’re Just Friends on the latest single from their upcoming EP and Tung In Cheek deliver a blast of post-indie pop with Psychonaut. And if you’re looking for something more sedate there’re beautiful Instrumentals from Paddy Mulcahy and BK Pepper.

All this plus new music from Reevah, Foy Vance, Elephant, Caoilian Sherlock, Christian Cohle, wornoc, Marlae, Rosie Timmon, KK Lewis, A Talk In The Dark, The Crayon Set, Cooks But We’re Chefs, The New Ravis, Jen Ella, Sarah Buckley and more besides.
