lowseaLow Sea are a snyth pop duo comprising of vocalist Billie and multi-instrumentalist Bobby D. Low Sea’s music has been described as being like “Julee Cruise on sedatives” and their new album is eagerly awaited by those in the know.  Goldenplec caught up with one half of the duo, Billie, to talk about their new album, their inspirations and what the future holds for low sea.

How did you guys meet/form the band?
“We both happened to be drawn in the same space-time by magnetic fields. In Earth terms, it was what is today called The US and the year of 2001. After that we travelled many distances and once in South of France we created Low Sea.”

You’re releasing a new album Remote Viewing in April, can you tell me a bit about it?
“Yes, it is a collection of stories translated into narcotic, danceable pop songs.”

Are you excited to have the album released after working on it for so long?
“We are. It’s been taking a bit longer than we anticipated mainly due to having to adjust to other people’s schedules, but we’re here now and we’re happy to be here.”

What inspired the album?
“There are two people in this band so it’s hard to answer for both at once. For me (Billie) it was All There Is.

Do you think that as a band you have grown between the release of your first album and your new one?
“Again, two people, one band. For me (Billie) it’s been the most amazing journey I’ve experienced so far. I will never be the same again.”

You’re playing the Camden Crawl in Dublin this year, are you looking forward to it?
“Yes, Dan Hegarty is curating the venue we’re playing so we’re very much looking forward to it as he’s been an amazing supporter of Low Sea from day one and we’re big fans of his too.”

Are there any gigs you are looking forward to going to this year?
“It’d be good to see My Bloody Valentine playing the new songs.”

You guys have moved around quite a bit, do you think you will stay in Ireland now or are there plans to go somewhere else?
“We’re nomads. We go where the fields take us.”

What artists inspire you?
“I cannot really answer that question because there’s so much out there and I’m open to any form of inspiration. Bobby’s a fan of all different kinds of music too.”

If you could cover one song what would it be and why?
“Probably 10th Planet by Solid Space. It’s beautiful and expansive.”

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
“Working with Stephen Hague. Besides his obvious talent, his kindness and support has been overwhelming.”

What does the future hold for the band?
“The future is now.”
