Well the sad news just keeps on coming with regards HMV, whom would be regarded as the pillar of physical product for the music industry in Ireland. It leaves a heavy burden on smaller independent music stores if this pans out to be across the entirety of Ireland.
The reason I say entirety of Ireland with uncertainty, is that the tweet confirming the closure of HMV for good comes from their Grafton Street store, largely considered their flagship store, so with it closing doors, it seems unlikely the smaller stores will escape.

Our friends over at The G-Man blog from Cork are now reporting HMV staff have gained access to the Patrick Street store and are staging their own sit in.
Meanwhile many food and drink vendors like The Grafton Lounge, Fade Street Social, Rustic Stone, Brasserie Sixty6 are all accepting HMV vouchers in good will gestures. Not one to miss out on an opportunity, Golden Discs have offered 20% discount to anyone presenting a HMV voucher and will make a donation the the Lily Mae charity single cause.

That was pretty bleak, but the Limerick store tweeted out that they are losing their jobs AND will not be paid. It seems that some of the employee’s are now initiating a lock in situation in protest at not getting paid. The latest reports are that staff have been placed on temporary leave. Deloitte are still looking into viability but for now stores will remain closed. Over on Reddit, a HMV employee has added a number where you can contact Deloitte about your gift card to be added to the list of creditors.
