This week turned out to be quite a good one for lovers of free music downloads, with two local bands releasing tracks onto bandcamp.com for the world to enjoy. This seems to be a growing trend in upcoming bands and one I’m fully behind. Get your music out into the public early by any means possible, if people like what they hear they will come to gigs, buy merch and will buy future releases.

The first band who released their debut EP ‘Lads with Sticks’ this week was post-rock band Overhead, the Albatross. I have seen this band live several times and every time they absolutely blew me away. The band consists of 3 guitarists, a bass player, drummer and keyboardist. Their sound ranges from beautiful melodic pieces to heavy, head-nodding parts. Fans of Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut and post-rock in general should definitely check this band out: http://overheadthealbatross.bandcamp.com/

As if that wasn’t enough, We’re Wolves released their first ever track this week entitled ‘I Was Ironman for Two Weeks’ Somewhat of a local superband, We’re Wolves consists of ex-Home Star Runner, ex-Born a Ghost, ex-Jody Has a Hitlist and ex-Little Nightmare members as well as the current Starters drummer. With a lineup like that, this band could really fail and the first song lives up to expectations. Quite a pop-punky feel off this band with its catchy chorus and quality riffs throughout. Defintely a band to be keeping an eye on for the future: http://wearewerewolves.bandcamp.com/
