Festival Details

Canalaphonic has announced its inaugural festival lineup initial acts to play throughout Portobello and Rathmines.

On Friday evening and all day Saturday bands will play on ‘The Making Waves stage’ a barge at Portobello Harbour, followed by a wide range of gigs and club nights of differing sizes and genres in 22 venues throughout the area.

Canalaphonic are taking over virtually every pub, art space and coffee shop in the area aswell as Rathmines library and the Harbour playhouse for the whole weekend. They want to appeal to families and music fans alike with the inclusion of a kids area and many of the venues will be alcohol free.

In addition on Saturday, to coincide with the arrival of barges participating in the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland’s Dublin Rally, there will be a boutique market at Portobello Harbour from 12 – 4pm, along with barge trips, and family fun activities.

A second stage will be in place from 12- 5pm at Rathmines Plaza which will feature trad musicians from Ballyfermot College, with childrens activities taking place at the front of St Marys College. Mart (the old Rathmines fire station) will host a 20 piece jazz swing band at 7pm on Saturday.

Throughout the festival there will be art/craft exhibitions, markets, pop up acoustic sets , drama and guerrilla spoken word performances throughout Rathmines and Portobello.

Charity partner will be Oxfam, who will host their own ‘Oxjam’ event in Mother Reillys pub.
