Don McLean has announced he will bring his American Pie 50th Anniversary Tour to Dublin.

The legendary singer-songwriter will play a fully-seated concert at 3Arena on Friday 7th October 2022 to commemorate the Day The Music Died.

McLean is a Grammy award honouree, a Songwriters Hall of Fame member and a BBC Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. American Pie was issued as a double A-side single in November 1971 and charted within a month, kickstarting his transition to international stardom in 1971. The song was later voted number 5 in a poll of the 365 “Songs of the Century” compiled by the Recording Industry Association of America and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Continuing to record new music to this day, McLean’s 19th studio album, ‘Botanical Gardens’, was released in 2018 to critical acclaim. On the album, McLean said “The inspiration for the project started years ago when I would walk in the beautiful gardens in Sydney, Australia near the Opera House. I would dream young dreams and it was a comfort and an inspiration. I was always young inside, like we all are, and I felt it again there.”
