Formed last year, early music group Cybele’s Flutes is branching out for its second outing with a concert entitled ‘Currently & Balletti’. Crossing over with electroacoustic duo Akkord Kollectiv, this promises to be an exciting experimental performance event, exploring work by old masters like Telemann and Hotteterre, improvisational elements of early music, and electronica, in the relaxed environment of the DCC Incubation Space.

Devised and led by 2016 PlecPick Miriam Kaczor, the ensemble’s other core players – Fionnuala MacMahon (recorders) and Gabriele Dikciute (cello) – are joined by harpsichordist Sean Heath and flautist Elisabeth Vogel, with Mario Papini (lute), Caitriona O’Mahoney (violin), Ed Tapceanu (violone), and Sebastian Adams (viola da gamba/electronics). Adding a completely different dimension will be Akkord Kollectiv’s Gabriele Dikciute and Tadhg Kinsella, together using a mix of both digital and modular synths with cello and percussion. As Kaczor puts it, this is an “utter passion” project, driven by curiosity not only to explore repertoire but also to experiment with different techniques and make new connections.

Making good use of the Kirkos Ensemble’s residency at the DCC Incubation Space in the north inner city, the concert will be free admission (donations welcome) and any profits from interval catering – homemade snacks, craft beer, plus a sale of handprinted photographs – will go to CMRF Crumlin Hospital Foundation.
