It seems like a very long time ago since Barq played their debut show at at a GoldenPlec gig. The self-proclaimed agro-soul outfit have went from strength to strength since that night releasing a string of emotive singles such as Gentle Kind of Lies and Optimus Prime.

Now Barq are set to unleash their sassy mouths upon the world with the release of double A-sided single Sassy Mouth/Earthquakes. The former is an ode to the power and persistence of the people behind the Repeal the 8th movement. The latter, examines the crushing heartache of falling out with friends.

On Sassy Mouth, Barq’s Jess Kavanagh told us in an interview last year that the track, “is one of my favourites – we finish a lot of our sets with it. It’s the one we notice people immediately start singing back the chorus. I think it’s quite topical. It’s about bodily agency and autonomy, and independence and standing up for what you believe in. It’s about how when you do stand up for yourself, the words that can be used against you – bossy, cheeky – try to reduce your opinions into something that’s petulant. It’s a discussion on those themes.”
