Ah Kylie, universally beloved Kylie. From Kylie and Jason, to gold hotpants Kylie, to showgirl Kylie and every Kylie in between, it’s impossible not to love the talented Minogue sibling.

‘Kiss Me Once’ is the first new offering from the tiny Aussie since 2010’s ‘Aphrodite’ and her twelfth studio release. Having recently changed management to Jay Z’s Roc Nation, will this mark a change in direction for the pop princess?

Lead single and opening track Into The Blue is classic Kylie Minogue, a perfect sing-along radio-friendly pop hit. It’s probably one of the best songs she has released this decade, and it’s sure to be a staple at parties this summer so get working on a dance routine now. That’s all you want from a Kylie album really –  some honest to goodness pop, and by God you get that by the bucket load with tracks such as If Only, Feels So Good and Million Miles.

Best track on the album? Without a question of a doubt, title track Kiss Me Once. It’s an absolutely timeless Kylie track; it feels like it could come from ’80s Kylie yet somehow doesn’t come across as cheesy.

The biggest standout of the album is the constant sex references. Okay, it’s not that unusual for a pop album, but with song titles like Les Sex, Sexercize and Sexy Love they’re not even trying to hide it. Unfortunately the songs are probably the weakest on ‘Kiss Me Once’ and just end up lowering the entire tone. You’re better than this Kylie.

Then there is the Enrique Iglesias duet Beautiful. There really are no words to describe just how boring the track is, but here goes – it’s the perfect cure for insomnia.

What Kylie has delivered is a typical pop album; there are some great poptastic hits, there are some perfectly acceptable tunes and then of course there is the filler. It’s not the best release to ever come from Miss Minogue but it’s certainly not her worst, and is guaranteed to at least produce a few radio hits.
