A former member of the Dublin Gospel Choir, Kellie Marie Reynolds is now producing her own brand of graceful, stripped songs. Her new EP ‘Ghosts’ (produced by Ross Turner – I Am the Cosmos), contains a fine representation of her easy listening folk-pop, and well-worked lyrics.

First track Short Song About Love is an inviting opener. The guitar maintains an eastern melody and rhythm, allowing her vocal to drape itself beautifully into the crooks of the song. At just over a minute, it’s a shame she found love so unworthy of more to say; but then again it’s all in the title.

Remote Consciousness draws out Reynolds’ voice further, displaying a great elegance in her note selection; she’s brave about where she lays emphasis, creating a great sense of witchcraft in the song – as if she’s singing straight from the heart of Salem. Heartbreakers, a neatly written track, kicks off its shoes and pops up in its chair, then sings to us about the “ghost” – no prizes for guessing it’s likely the same ghost which lays claim to the EP’s title.

Fade Out The City and Taken By The Night are dished up a little dry, and somewhat round off the album in a bit of a whimper. The spoken approach, and the basic guitar accompaniment don’t aid in capturing the overall mood. The thinly used soundscapes on the latter, do however, and it saves the song from falling into the ‘acoustic drab’ category. That all said, her vocals are wonderfully designed and she delivers them with class. Kelly Marie Reynolds brings a magical flavour to the female folk-pop sound, with distinct charm.
