The young Dublin based singer-songwriter Gavin James released his four track debut EP ‘Say Hello’ recently. The last twelve months have been very eventful for the twenty one year old musician.

Appearances on Other Voices and The Late Late Show, signing a record deal, numerous radio performances on top of coveted support slots with international superstars ‘Marina And The Diamonds’ and Irish golden boys ‘Kodaline’ have thrown James into the spotlight. Add into this mix a sold out solo date in Whelan’s (a second date has been added due to demand) and his musical star is certainly seems to be shining brightly.

The exciting EP kicks into life with title track Say Hello. From the outset Gavin James’ talent as a singer is obvious. His vocal range is far superior to something you would expect from someone so young. For You, the next track up, introduces us to some very impressive guitar work and also heralds the introduction of a gentle string section that really adds depth to the EP. Hole In My Heart and Slow are a very strong finale to the EP. These lyrically impressive songs seem destined to be future hits.

A mere thirteen minutes is more that enough to whet the appetite of anyone that listens to the ‘Say Hello EP’, and it will inevitably leave them craving much more. Work on his debut album is well under way and, with a release date scheduled for later this year, we hopefully will not have a long wait to hear it. With young talent like Gavin James emerging, 2013 is already looking like a very promising year for Irish music.
