This week, it seems only right that Gig of the Week goes to an evening which as much as a tribute & benefit night to one of Ireland’s most popular musicians, is also a showcase for the wealth of talent this fine land has produced. A Night For Christy is taking place in The Olympia Theatre on Friday night, and is currently sold out. Acts expected to perform on the night include Gavin James, Paul Brady, Horslips, The Riptide Movement, Mary Black, Steve Wall, Mark Feehily, Ryan Sheridan, Shane McGowan, Jerry Fish, Tom Dunne, Gavin Friday, Danny O’Reilly, Jedward and some top secret surprises.
U2 will also feature, in the form of a video stream from New York. All the performers have handpicked their favorite Aslan track and will perform it on the night. In case you missed out on tickets, the gig will be streamed in various venues across Ireland, Europe, Australia, Dubai and Canada.
While most other 16 year olds will be out celebrating Junior Cert results, the sensational SOAK will be playing another sell out Dublin date tonight (Wednesday), this time in The Pepper Canister Church. Tickets for that are sold out. Another member of Take That is in town this week, little Mark Owen will be playing The Olympia Theatre on Wednesday. Tickets are still available and start from €29.
Walking on Cars launch their EP in Whelan’s on Thursday night. Tickets are still available and are only €12.
If you haven’t already seen enough of yer wan Rihanna around the capital, she’ll be down in The Aviva Stadium on Friday night. There’s limited availability on tickets and they start from €59.50. If camping in the grounds of a majestic castle is more up your alley, head on down to Body & Soul in Ballinlough Castle, you’ll be treated to musical offerings from the likes of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Public Image Ltd, Solange, Kurt Vile & The Violaters, Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires, Mmoths & Willy Mason. Tickets for the weekend are still available and are €139 or €50 for a Sunday pass.
The Coronas headline Live at the Marquee on Saturday night. Tickets are still available and are €33.50. Sunday night sees the ever fabulous Elton John take the reigns. Tickets for the rocket man start from €52 and still available.
And mammy’s favorite, Mr Josh Groban will round off the weekend on Sunday night with a performance in The O2. Tickets are still available and will set you back €52.
