We here at the Goldenplec Classical Team have traipsed through this month’s upcoming shows to bring you a concise list of what not to miss!

Something New

RTE NSO, Elaine Agnew, Mozart, Elgar- January 9th at NCH

nmd-photo-rtenso2015 marks the 30th anniversary of the RTE Philharmonic Choir. As part of the celebrations they join the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra for this world premiere of Elaine Agnew’s adaption of the Sassoon poem by the same name. The recent commission is programmed between the Mozart concerto and Elgar’s emotive The Music Makers.

Tonight is not only a great opportunity to hear the premiere of the latest Irish composition but sees some of the country’s most esteemed performers all under the one roof.

Princeton University Orchestra, Monday 26th January at UCH, Limerick

Princeton University OrchestraTonight sees Princeton University Orchestra take over Limerick’s UCH. Impressively the ensemble made up mostly of students from the Princeton University will be tackling a selection of what our very own Sean-nós has to offer.  With quite the reputation on their own campus, these guys are definitely worth seeing.

A Spot of Jazz

Peter Brotzmann & Paul G Smyth, January 22nd at the NCH

download (1)This is the first in a four part series focusing on jazz pianist Paul G Smyth. Tonight’s performance brings together the Irishman and free jazz master of the saxophone and clarinet, Peter Brotzmann. Along with hearing one of the most exciting musicians working in Ireland at the moment, jazz lovers shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to witness a musician whose contribution to the genre spans four decades.

Pick of the Month

David Arnold, January 22nd at NCH

David ArnoldHollywood meets Earlsfort terrace. Tonight promises to be an intimate evening with the great film composer. With the scores of five Bond movies and BBC's Sherlock under his belt (literally, to name but a few) this is not only a rare opportunity to see the composer perform alongside orchestra but if the shows début in London is anything to go by, the audience will leave with a new insight into his much loved compositions.
