Meze 11 DecoWhat kind of earphones you use can range in emotional attachment. For some, earphones are earphones and as long as they can hear their music, they are happy out.

On the flip side are a discerning bunch that for us split into two groups. Those wearing for the brand name, and those looking for aesthetic appeal along with high quality audio and while Meze might not be the most well known headphone brand in the world, they have a focus on sound and look and we think they’ve done pretty well.

Aesthetic

They look great, handcrafted beechwood enclosure for the headphones might not be to everyone’s taste, but for us these earbuds look fantastic. The white clean look and feel to the wiring and the accompanying earphone carry case is simple, clean and effective.

Sound

The sleek handcrafted beech wood has been chosen for its warm, natural sound and their logic is sound (no pun intended) as we worked through our playlist of tracks, the beech wood has its intended effect giving the sound a lovely warmth. It has a good strong bass without being overpowering. For the spec-heads out there it’s an 8mm neodymium speaker with frequency operating between 17hz and 25khz. Sensitivity is 101+/-2dB.

Value

So how much do they cost? Well they aren’t the cheapest earphones you’ll buy, but then they are a quality above most of the standard earphones you might buy. To grab a set of earphones from the Meze Online Shop will cost you €65 and that’s the kind of ball-park we expect to find a good quality set of earphones.

Overall

For us, Meze headphones are as good as any sub-€100 earphones we’ve tried. They look stylish and sound great and while yes there is better out there, it will cost you a chunk more. If you’re in the market for a good set of earphones, we would suggest not writing of Meze because you haven’t heard of the brand, they are as good as anything in that price range.
