Wexford Singer-Songwriter Callum Orr has returned following a short hiatus to bring us the video for his latest song Wedding Song. The song was born as Orr’s gift to his sister on her wedding day, and speaks of the joy in watching a loved one fall in love and the happiness you feel for them and their partner.
The track opens with a beautiful guitar melody, before being joined by a string section which ascends gradually throughout the track to be met by a piano melody for the final chorus’s crescendo. When asked about his songwriting process, Orr notes that he’s “obsessed with the concept of love and I seek it out. I’m driven to write songs almost exclusively when in the throes of love or its disintegration”.
The video, directed by Orr, alongside his best friend Ross Hannon and shot by Peter Cooney, depicts three sets of couples and explores the couples undying love and affection for one another. It offers viewers an insight into what it is that these couples cling to and how their loves continues to grow and nurture. The video offers a heartfelt look into Orr himself, and what he deems important and special when it comes to love. As a wedding gift, it goes a long way to encapsulating what it means to be in love, and what it takes to keep the fire burning.
Coming three years after his last EP, 2016’s ‘Dawning Throes’, Wedding Song is a hint of the next step in Orr’s musical journey.
