Fancy hearing some new tunes and broadening your musical horizons? We’ll help you with that so!

Incase you’ve never experienced The Plec Picks (listen to older playlists here) or are a little confused about what The Plec Picks are, the GP team jot down what their most listened to songs of the week are and we make a lovely playlist of all the songs for everyone to enjoy. It’s interesting to hear what everyone is listening to and it’s a chance to treat your ear holes to something a bit out of the ordinary. And you never know, you may even discover your new favourite band!

As there’s a lot of different tastes in the mix here, every song might not be to everyone’s liking so feel free to skip to the next song if there’s something that doesn’t quite float your boat.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening).

If you do come across something you like, scroll on down the page a bit, be lovely and click the social media icons beside the artist and throw them a like/follow and explore what more they has to offer. Show your support.

We hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition! And sure, while you’re here you may aswell subscribe to us on YouTube to see when we add new video content and make new Plec Pick playlists.

What’s in there?

Vampire Weekend // Ya Hey (Chosen by Claire Kane)

Their last album, ‘Contra’, left a lot to be desired but with the catchy lead single Diane Young and now this phenomenal track, excitement is in the air for ‘Modern Vampires of the City’

The Gaslight Anthem // Here Comes My Man (Chosen by Niall Swan)

If for some reason you don’t see the clear influence of Springsteen in Gaslight Anthem’s music then I dare you not to be convinced by this belter of a tune.

Straw Bear // Snobbery (Chosen by Frank Hughes)

Straw Bear couple atmospheric folk weirdnesss with some very clever and funny lyrics. This is the latest single form their superb album Black Bank.

Laura Marling // Master Hunter (Chosen by Claire Kane)

Marling is a refreshing talent and her new album ‘Once I was an Eagle’ is definitely the best thing she has ever done. This song is the most outstanding track on the album and it is highly addictive!

The Supersuckers // One Cigarette Away (Chosen by Aled Owen-Thomas)

I always thought it was a good song, but I’ve got a new appreciation of it now that I’ve learnt how to play it on guitar.

Sorcha Richardson // Higher (Chosen by Clare O’Hanlon)

Bought Sorcha’s EP after hearing an excerpt of ‘I heart NYC’ during I-CON on Phantom. It’s such a perfect listen and very much looking forward to the new EP.

John Newman // Love Me Again (Chosen by Jennibombenni)

This is one hell of a catchy tune, turn it up & play it loud Goldenplec…..loving the Northern Soul vibes in the video…unfortunate about the end tho….have a look x

CHVRCHES // Gun (Chosen by Stuart O’Hara)

I can’t get enough of this band lately!Their music is synthesised bliss.

Macklemore // Fake ID (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

Oh, Macklemore! I can’t get enough fo this dude. I’ve bought tickets to his o2 gig and am more than excited! I’ve delved into his older stuff to recently and it’s tasty! This is a funktastic number

Sister Sledge/Dimitri From Paris // Thinking Of You (Chosen by Claire Beck)

One of the sweetest love songs ever written, reworked with just the right amount of extra oomph by Dimitri From Paris… Whats not to like?

Straw Bear // Snobbery (Chosen by Frank Hughes)

The brilliant lyrics and the gorgeous jangly guitar pop has made this song one of my favourites over the past few months. This is the new video for Peterborough band Straw Bear from their brilliant album Black Bank.

Simple Minds // Don’t You (Forget About Me) (Chosen by Abe)

It’s John Hughes season at Lighthouse Cinema. Let’s all be 14 again.

Queens of the Stone Age // I Sat by The Ocean (Chosen by Bernard O’Rourke)

Forget Daft Punk, the new album from Josh Homme and co has been the album of 2013 I’ve been most excited about. After only a few listens I am already very impressed.

Reverend And The Makers // No Soap (In A Dirty War) (Chosen by Aisling O’Brien)

There’s definitely something in the water in Sheffield, some top notch bands have emerged from Steel City. This came on during the week, had completely forgotten what a gem it is. It’s literally been on repeat for days.
