The Plec Picks is a collaboration from both the writers & photographers here on GoldenPlec (and sometimes we include our readers’ choices!). Everyone chooses their most listened to song from the past week and we make a playlist out of it for all to hear.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening). We’ve now added a Deezer option for those who have that but there are some missing songs that Deezer doesn’t have. The Youtube version would be the most complete version.

It’s a great way to discover new music & if you come across something you like, click the social media icons beside the artist and throw them a like/follow and explore what more the artist has to offer.

As always, we hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition!

What’s in there?

The Dandy Warhols // Big Indian (Chosen by Sean Noone)

Every now and then you need some Dandy Warhols in your life. For me, this is one of those moments… I’m just not sure why.

Brakes // All Night Disco Party (Chosen by Sean Conroy)

I’ve been working nights the past while in my new job. I can’t sleep during the day, so I crack a lot of Red Bulls at night to get through the shift. Invariably after an hour, my whole brain gives up and goes back to simple enjoyable things, like All Night Disco Party. Which unfortunately, my job isn’t.

Nanu Nanu // Pocket Of Gold (Chosen by Stephen Byrne)

Pocket Of Gold a catchy slice of Alien Pop courtesy of Laura Sheeran (Vocals) and BellX1 allumni Marc Aubele (Keys) and Rory Doyle (Drums). First it reels you in with its simple bassline then the swirling drums and Sci-Fi sounds combine perfectly. In a shrewd move Nanu Nanu are actively encouraging fans to remix Pocket Of Gold by making the stems available on line for free.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis // Same Love (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

This is why I love Plec Picks. I first heard Macklemore’s song “Thrift Shop” a few weeks ago on the Plec Picks and I loved it. Went looking for his other material and I’ve been pretty much been listening to his latest album “The Heist” on repeat since. This song is just great.

My Bloody Valentine // New You (Chosen by Jonathan Klein)

The first new album from these legendary shoegazers since 1991, was released on Saturday night. From initial listens, this one is my favourite, with a fine bassline, and the trademark background fuzz and whispered vocals. It really is beautiful.

Stony Sleep // Lady Lazurus (Chosen by Kevin Donnellan)

No Facebook

Back when Phantom was a pirate station they played this on occasion but I never caught the name. I once rang up asking for the ‘Demons in the snow song’. They said they didn’t know it, put me on air and mocked me. True story.

The Cinematic Orchestra // To Build A Home (Chosen by Claire Beck)

No Twitter

Their new album LateNightTales is in my ‘must buy come payday’ list, but for now I’m all over their classic Ma Fleur. This song is simply, stunning. prepare for goosebumps.

Shone // Piano Wire Number 12 (Chosen by Greg Synnott)

I discovered this track through a series of links and apart from some speculation the artists seem to be an enigma, a possible new super group made up of members of Brand new, Manchester Orchestra, Crime in Stereo and many more. The songs brilliance is such that I bought the vinyl outright without question. Everything about it is still in question for now except for how good this one track is. Update: There is now an album streaming online, no idea of a line up.

Fleetwood Mac // Little Lies (Chosen by Aisling O’Brien)

With the announcement of their September show this morning, I’ve found myself bopping away to all their hits all day.
