After a brief hiatus last week, we welcome you to this week’s Plec Picks!

Incase you’ve never experienced The Plec Picks (listen to older playlists here) or are a little confused about what The Plec Picks are, the GP team jot down what their most listened to songs of the week are and we make a lovely playlist of all the songs for everyone to enjoy. It’s interesting to hear what everyone’s listening to and it’s a chance to hear something different. And you might even discover your new favourite band! As there’s a lot of different tastes in the mix here, every song isn’t going to be to everyone’s liking so feel free to skip to the next song if there’s something that doesn’t float your boat.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening).

If you come across something you like, click the social media icons beside the artist and throw them a like/follow and explore what more the artist has to offer.

As always, we hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition!

What’s in there?

Purity Ring // Lofticries (Chosen by Alice Goodwin)

Very chilled, melodic and easy to listen to. Perfect winter tunage.

Bon Iver // Towers (Chosen by Mark Earley)

Saw him in concert last night for the 3rd/4th time and every time he’s been exceptional. The band absolutely killed the O2. Look forward to seeing them again in whatever form in the future…

Julian Casablancas // I Wish It Was Christmas Today (Chosen by Aisling O’Brien)

It’s almost Christmas, so I reckon it’s about time we whip out the tunes. Mr Casablancas can do no wrong in my eyes. Based on a Saturday Night Live skit and first performed on Jimmy Fallon, this has become one of my favorite festive songs in recent years.

Flight of the Concords // If You’re Into It (Chosen by Sean Noone)

I don’t feel it requires explanation. It’s just fantastic,

Eatenbybears // Simple as Hell (Chosen by Greg Synnott)

A upbeat tropical tune to get me through the cold evenings, from this Northern Irish foursome. They played the Twister Pepper last Thursday and proved themselves to be a power house live, up there with the likes of Croupier and And So I Watch You From Afar.

Morrissey // King Lear (Chosen by Stephen Byrne)

Comedy gold from Stephen E. from 1991’s ‘Kill Uncle,’ King Lear is a little ray of sunshine from the master of selfdeprecation. Morrissey never fails to pull me up by my bootstraps.

Wallis Bird // To My Bones (Chosen by Alice Goodwin)

I’ve gotten back into this lady in a big way since her recent Whelans gig, and though this track is one of the older ones, it’s catchy as hell.

Madness // My Girl (Chosen by Justin McDaid)

The lads are back with a new album of classic Madness skacentricity. My Girl 2 kicks it off but you just can’t beat the angsty original.

Scroobius Pip and Dan Le Sac // Beat That My Heart Skipped (Chosen by Aidan Cuffe)

Absolute tune. Amazing live. It’s infectious to the point of one listen makes you hit repeat numerous times. Enjoy this audio-quicksand

Carrie Underwood // Two Black Cadillacs (Chosen by Abe)

The latest single by vocal powerhouse Carrie Underwood, from her now awkwardly prophetic album Blown Away. 4 albums in, there’s no signs of slowing down for Idol’s original and best country megastar.

Young Aviators // The Question Is (Chosen by Niall Swan)

Met these lads while in Poland for the Euro’s. They’ve a new single out now, this isn’t it but it’s been in my head all week. Catchy tunes, singalong lyrics and a daycent video.

The Vapors // Turning Japanese (Chosen by Sean)

It’s got one of the worst videos of all time and despite claims otherwise, the band have never been able to convince people it wasn’t about the auld ahem, “hand-shandy”.

That all said, it’s one of the best pop songs ever.

Portishead // Cowboys (Chosen by Kevin Donnellan)

Beak> played Sunday (18th) which served to remind that Geoff Barrow’s other band Portishead are all kinds of great. Cowboys is a more turntable led song than their better known tracks and deserves to be better known.

The White Buffalo // Where Dirt and Water Collide (Chosen by Mark Earley)

An amazing voice and a catchy tune. Whats not to like about it??

Neil Young // Harvest Moon (Chosen by Stuart O’Hara)

This is the ultimate in easy listening. Note the sound of the sweeping broom throughout.

Keane // Disconnected (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

I missed their gig last week and I’m quite annoyed by that. I had planned on going but it just slipped me by. But, I just started listening to their newest album “Strangeland” as a result and it’s a really good! Silver linings and all that, I guess!

Dutch Uncles // Fester (Chosen by Claire Beck)

This UK band sometimes affectionately dubbed ‘Warm Chip’ due to the more than a few similarities to Hot Chip always put a smile on my face. Their new album OUT OF TOUCH IN THE WILD will be released on January 14th.

Bleeding Heart Pigeons // Catharsis (Chosen by Nicola Byrne)

I’ve been listening to this young Limerick band since their support slot in Whelans a couple of weeks back. I particularly love this track’s transition from dreamy indie-pop to complete hushed serenity.

Republic of Loose // They Pay for Love (Chosen by Bernard O’Rourke)

Mick Pyro and co are back, and they are as wild and weird and incredibly fun to listen to as ever.

Adam Cohen // What other guy (Chosen by Debbie Hickey)

I saw Adam Cohen for the first time on Monday night when he was supporting Rufus Wainwright in Vicar St. He certainly did not disappoint! Like his father, he’s a great story teller and seems to have inherited his delicious voice!
