This week’s The Plec Picks is a stomper and has some great treats for your ear holes.

The Plec Picks is a collaboration from both the writers, photographers here on GoldenPlec (and sometimes we include our readers’ choices!). Everyone chooses their most listened to song from the past week and we make a playlist out of it for all to hear.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening). We’ve now added a Deezer option for those who have that but there are some missing songs that Deezer doesn’t have. The Youtube version would be the most complete version.

It’s a great way to discover new music & if you come across something you like, click the social media icons beside the artist and throw them a like/follow and explore what more the artist has to offer.

As always, we hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition!

What’s in there?

Everything Everything // Cough Cough (Chosen by Greg Synnott)

Only got the chance to listen to these recently and I’ve been hooked on this song lately. It’s very different, in a very good way.

Sara Bareilles // Gravity (Chosen by Abe)

Major musical sacrilege was committed the day Sara Bareilles was the opening act for Maroon 5! A true musician, her songwriting is only bested by the depth her performances. Real music.

Django Django // Default (Chosen by Debbie Hickey)

This song is infectious. Awesome video too!

Boy Lights Fire // Atalanta (Chosen by Frank Hughes)

Sadly during the week Boy Lights Fire decided to go on indefinite hiatus. This song reminded me of just what a great band they were.

Smashing Pumpkins // Disarm (Chosen by Stuart O’Hara)

This is a great example of Billy Corgan’s diversity as a songwriter. He knows when to make them heavy and when to strip them back.

Bjorn Torske // Spelunker (Chosen by Mark Earley)

Whats not to like about it? It’s silly, funny and catchy all at the same time. My brother got me on to this years ago when I lived in Galway and I spent many a wet cycle (its rains for years down there, not days) with this in my earholes. Smiling music.

Outhere Brothers // Boom Boom Boom (Chosen by Kevin Donnellan)

No Twitter

HMV is closed, and with it the memory of parental advisory stickers and the thrill of buying a tape with one on it. This is in no way a good song, but serious memories attached to it.

Biffy Clyro // Black Chandelier (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

I’ve been listening to this loads this week! Can’t wait for the new album and when they hit the O2 in March. All of the excitement! (Read our review of Biffy’s new album Opposites)

Luis Baclov // Django (Chosen by Bernard O’Rourke)

No Twitter

I’ve always been a massive fan of the eclectic soundtracks to Quentin Tarantino films, and Django Unchained is absolutely no exception. This song (originally the theme to 60s spaghetti western Django) plays over the opening titles of Tarantino’s new film. It’s been stuck in my head ever since.

Queen // Bicycle Race (Chosen by Sean Conroy)

In the aftermath of Lance Armstrong admitting he was off his tits on drugs peddling around France for a few years, this song has been playing in my head all week. It’s a song about riding your bike and women with ample posteriors. What’s not to like?

Yo La Tengo // Before We Run (Chosen by justin mcdaid)

Yo La Tengo are one of those consistently great, if-it-ain’t-broke-don’t-fix-it bands. New album ‘Fade’ don’t fix it.

Cyril Hahn // Say My Name (Destiny’s Child Remix) (Chosen by Ros Madigan)

Playing Button Factory in March. This is just about the best remix of last year. Tasty lil’ number.

Evora // Tell Me Your Name (Chosen by Niall Swan)

This song was brought to my attention a few weeks ago and I’ve been hooked since. Beautiful in its simplicity with vocals to die for. Debut album out this year, expecting big things.

Willy Mason // Restless Fugitive (Chosen by Stephen Murphy)

Willy has the good old dusty small-town America sound of Woody Guthrie crossed the modern drunk at a bar with nowhere to go vibe of Tom Waits. With one foot in the old verbal folk tradition and another firmly in the present it’s hard not to dig this man’s sound. “Restless Fugitive” is a quiet lament that has echoes of those great American myths and films like ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ or ‘Badlands’. Off his latest album Carry On, it is atmospheric and melodic in equal measure. He toured with Ben Howard recently and will be in Whelan’s on the 14th of March headlining his own show

Dan le sac VS Scroobius Pip // Thou Shalt Always Kill (Chosen by Michelle Geraghty)

“Thou shalt never question Stephen Fry” Words of wisdom

Val Normal // Metal Gear Salad (Chosen by Claire Kane)

Great name for a song. Very early ’00s. I just LOVE this band.
