Fancy hearing some new tunes and broadening your musical horizons? We can help you with that!

Incase you’ve never experienced The Plec Picks (listen to older playlists here) or are a little confused about what The Plec Picks are, the GP team jot down what their most listened to songs of the week are and we make a lovely playlist of all the songs for everyone to enjoy. It’s interesting to hear what everyone is listening to and it’s a chance to treat your ear holes to something a bit out of the ordinary. And you never know, you may even discover your new favourite band!

As there’s a lot of different tastes in the mix here, every song might not be to everyone’s liking so feel free to skip to the next song if there’s something that doesn’t quite float your boat.

Click play once (it’s a playlist) and it’ll cycle through all the videos / songs (so you can just leave the tab open and keep listening).

If you do come across something you like, scroll on down the page a bit, be lovely and click the social media icons beside the artist and throw them a like/follow and explore what more they has to offer. Show your support.

We hope you enjoy this week’s offerings and be sure to let us know what you’re listening to and you might make it into next week’s edition! And sure, while you’re here you may aswell subscribe to us on YouTube to see when we add new video content and make new Plec Pick playlists.

What’s in there?

The Beatles // Blackbird (Chosen by Alice Goodwin)

I love it simply because it is the ultimate of simple, sweet and beautiful.

Amanda Palmer // Do it with a rockstar (Chosen by Debbie Hickey)

Very excited for Amanda’s show on Thursday! Is there anything this lady can’t do?

Kanye West // Bound 2 (Chosen by Gavin O Leary)

Arguably the best song from my album of the year so far. Its not often I like an album this much but Yeezus is flawless.

Sterophonics // We Share The Sun (Chosen by Claire Kane)

I will never understand why Stereophonics suddenly became ‘Uncool’ especially when they continue to make songs like this.

Bastille // Things We Lost in The Fire (Chosen by Vanessa)

Did you know Bastille are Bastille because that’s what Dan Smith’s teacher called him in French class? His birthday is July 14th and to coincide this year, the band released the video for ‘Things we lost in the fire’. I’ve lost count how many of the tracks have been officially released as singles (5/6?) which goes to show the quality on this modern pop masterpiece.

Anamanaguchi // Endless Fantasy (Chosen by Yan)

Anamanaguchi raised less than a third of what Amanda Palmer raised on Kickstarter and they’ve already sent a slice of pizza to space. Has Amanda Palmer sent anything to space? Didn’t think so. No seriously they actually sent a slice of pizza to space. That is a thing they actually did, for this music video. Also, this is exactly the kind of song you need for a summer like we’ve suddenly been having.

Amon Amarth // Pursuit of Vikings (Chosen by Aled)

Follow @https://twitter.com/AmonAmarthBand

This band have a funny effect on me, like awaking my inner Viking. And this was the song that introduced me to them.

Good Charlotte // I Just Wanna Live (Chosen by Aidan Cuffe)

No idea why but it is stuck in my head all week. Now go get this unstuck from your head.

Editors // Sugar (Chosen by Sean Smyth)

I’ve been a fan of Editors for years and their newest album crept up on me. The lead single sounds like U2, there’s no denying, but the whole album is great (and doesn’t sound like U2). Looking forward to seeing them live when they’re here.

Jagwar Ma // Uncertainty (Chosen by David Dooley)

It’s got a baggy, day-glo, carefree bounce that’s perfect for our cracking summer!

Charles Bradley // Strictly Reserved For You (Chosen by Sean Conroy)

Charles Bradley, a former James Brown impersonator was a pensioner before he went on his own solo career, some years back. His mix of 70s soul grooves and sense of humour have won him fans all over the world in recent months and it’s not hard to see why in this video. Indeed, it’s a track Mr. Brown himself would’ve been proud of.

The Chameleons // Swamp Thing (Chosen by Jonathan Klein)

With a badass name like Swamp Thing, this song is already on the right track to awesomeness. There’s loads going on, with the bass, guitar, synths and drums all doing their thing, with the vocals floating in every now and then to great effect.

Pixies // Bag Boy (Chosen by Sean Noone)

The Pixies are back!!!

The Fall // Sir William Wray (Chosen by Justin McDaid)

A new Fall album – keep ’em coming Mark. This has a touch of Stooges to it, as well as the usual Mark E Smith magic. Roll on album number 31

Jay-Z // Picasso Baby (Chosen by Alex Millar)

The bassline, the beats, and the feeling that I can ‘step to any fella that fronts’ makes this one fantastic. Coming to sports roundups near you.
