Solomon Grey have released a live performance concept video for Gaslight, taken from their latest release ‘Human Music’. The video features singer Joe Wilson singing along to a tape recording of Gaslight as he drives to the studio to rehearse. He meets other musicians along the way before finally arriving in the studio where, along with bandmate Tom Kingston the undertake playing the track in its intricate glory complete with horn section and layers of synths.
Joe Wilson and Tom Kingston split their time between writing soundtracks (The Last Post – BBC) and being a band. “The crossover between our own songs and our soundtracks has always been there but it’s shifted slightly,” says Tom. “An influence on this album was definitely working to deadlines. Making soundtracks, you have to produce a lot of material really quickly. You have to become less precious. Rather than torturing yourself trying to produce the perfect piece of work, we embraced the moment. Human Music relates the events of a specific period of time.”
‘Human Music’ features a 22-piece, Hungarian orchestra and lashings of synth goodness and emotive vocals.
Solomon Grey’s Tape Machine Tour comes to The Grand Social, 1st November 2018. Tickets €17.00.
