Back in October/November some of us here in GoldenPlec went to Iceland on our holidays; taking in the islands, volcanic views, hot tubs, and northern lights, before heading to Reykjavik for Icelandic Airwaves, where we saw a host of international and local acts. We even bumped into Ariel Pink whilst record shopping.
As you can imagine the mere mention of Iceland is contentious round these parts. Did we mention Halloween night was spent in an outdoor hot tub watching the fireworks go off. Okay we’ll digress here.
One of the many interesting Icelandic acts we discovered at Airwaves was all-female hip hop crew Reykjavikurdaetur. We were impressed by their seemingly boundless energy – having taken in several of their shows in a 48hr period – their strong feminist message and refreshingly open attitude towards sex.
Check out this live performance for KEXP in KEX Hostel. But be warned it’s not for the easily offended.
PS. Heading to Iceland? Don’t eat the shark. They piss on it! No really…
