Van Morrison @ Marlay Park by Owen Humphreys-7The conferment of the Freedom of the City on Van Morrison will be the highlight of the fourth annual Belfast Music Week.

On Monday night Belfast City Council made the decision to grant “Freedom Of Belfast” to Van ‘The Man’ Morrison. There will be a ceremony on Friday 15th November in Ulster Hall and it will be followed by a free show featuring Van Morrison and his band.

Reacting to the announcement, Van Morrison said: “Belfast is my home. It is where I first heard the music that influenced and inspired me, it is where I first performed and it is somewhere I have referred back to many times in my songwriting over the past 50 years. I am delighted and honoured to receive the Freedom of the City.

There will be plenty more music announcements for Belfast Music Week which will take place November 11th – 17th with a range of genre’s highlighted and culminating in a tribute to Seamus Heaney by the Ulster Orchestra on Sunday 17th November.

Ticketing arrangements for all of these events will be announced in the near future.
