A new music festival in Ireland will run the weather gauntlet just like Electric Picnic does every year with the announcement that the Valentia Island will become the latest location to host a festival.

Located off the coast of southwest Kerry, it is a unique festival in that it aims to have great music but also have a special dating and matchmaking workshop to a crowd of around 1000 people. It will have three main stages with headliners performing in The Big Top and the Paddy Mirage tent will host root/folk and reggae. The final stage is a chill out tent with DJs spinning tracks from early to late.

It takes place September 14th – 16th 2012 and you can expect to see the likes of The Rubberbandits, Jerry Fish, Donal Dineen, The Frank and Walters, Ham Sandwich, This Club, Tieranniesaur, Fred, Daniel Martin Moore, DJ Kormac, The Young Folk and Toby Kaar all on the current announced lineup. More names will be announced over coming weeks.

On the matchmaking front, Avril Mulcahy will be Miss Singlelista hosting power flirting workshops and dating activities. There will be holistic therapies, arts and crafts and canoeing, surfing and kite surfing and much more. If you’re athletic, the Valentia Island half marathon takes place on Saturday 15th.

Speaking at the launch, Ana Mahé, the festival’s event organiser said “We have worked extremely hard over the past number of months to ensure a really high calibre line up for the inaugural festival and we are really excited to have some of the best Irish bands perform. This is an eclectic music and events programme sure to satisfy all tastes and age groups. Valentia Island is a place apart and will provide an amazing backdrop to a completely unique event which will end the 2012 festival season on a high.”

Early bird tickets for the Valentia Isle Festival go on sale this Saturday, 23rd June at 9am through the website (www.valentiaislefestival.com). Early bird tickets are priced at just €50 without camping and €60 with.
