The incredible snowballing tweet from idea to actual Christmas single is now realising its potential on the day of its launch.
I was in attendance today as the amazing Brenda Drumm, the inspiration for the event and an inspirational character herself, led the line from the front, unveiling the single which was created by 140 or so volunteers who all were coordinated through Twitter and met in The Westin Hotel on Westmoreland Street.
From there the single, a cover of Winter Song (originally Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson) was released only one week later, fully edited and produced including multiple solo vocalist and a choir of Twitterati in aid of the Holles St Neonatal Unit.
It spent the day climbing the chart as the original song enjoyed a resurgence possibly off the back of this single (and maybe some confused purchases) however now the #TwitterXmasSingle sits at #1 and the original at #2.
It’s an amazing story but hopefully it won’t end there. We will be urging people to purchase / repurchase the song from December 19th onwards to try make this amazing story an Irish Christmas #1.
It’s currently 8/1 on Paddy Power, If I was you I would throw a few euro on it. There is a big movement to make it happen on Twitter.
