John Barker from Totally Irish along with 98FM pushing behind him, went on the search for  Ireland best new act, and the search is now over.

98FM’s Brand New Act was whittled down from hundreds of entries to just five and they had a week of voting to see who would be 98FM’s Brand New Act and win the great prize on offer which was a slot on Thursday at Totally Irish Live at The Workmans Club, a song playlisted by 98FM and two days recording time in Windmill Lane Studios.

Four piece rock band The Yips walked away the winner ahead of highly tipped Morgan La Faye, I’m Your Vinyl, Les Marionettes and Tiny Telephone Exchange. It was rather resounding too with them taking over 48% of the station text vote.

The Yips first action as winners will be to support Paddy Casey and This Club in The Workmans Club this Thursday 26th April.

Speaking about their win Steven McCann said

“We are thrilled to have won, everyone at DIT Francis Street was going wild when we got the news and are coming along to support us on Thursday night. We are really looking forward to gigging and hopefully to record an album!”
