As we were supporting the ANTI-SOPA protest we thought this might be worth providing some coverage. It seems that tonight the FBI and Department of Justice shut down Megaupload.

Minutes later Anonymous sprang into action, a massive group of hackers took the fight back to the government and started taking down websites. They have taken down the Department of Justice website, The US copyright office, Universal Music, The RIAA and MPAA website amongst some.

This is by far and away the biggest attack I can remember in any recent time. The hacktivists within the collective Anonymous are waging war on the website for the White House having broken many other government sites. The action has been fueled by the fact that despite congress pretty much changing their stance on SOPA, the FBI have managed to raid Megaupload.

We found a blog there has been occasional updates to over at anonops.blogspot.com which might be worth checking out. They have a twitter account too https://twitter.com/#!/anonops.

We don’t know what’s going to happen here. How the government will react and IF they can do anything in retaliation to this but what we do know is this feels a lot like the matrix. Anonymous – They fight for us.

Just one addendum, we have been told that a link is circling the web at the minute which unwittingly starts your PC attacking the websites Anonymous are targeting. So I would urge users out there to be careful that they don’t unwittingly become a part of the attack, remember you will be far more traceable than a hacker who is protecting his PC.
