Since the awarding of the MISP grant packages there has been much consternation within the Irish music scene – some of it justified and some of it factually incorrect.

Unfortunately, a portion of the discourse around MISP on social media platforms has been propelled by misinformation. Mark Graham, via his ‘Irish Music Industry’ podcast, attempts to cut through the noise and address the main structural issues around the rollout of the grant rather than pointing aim at the people who were recipients of the schemes.

One of the most controversial aspects of the rollout of this scheme was the unadvertised allocation of €28,000 to Digital Distribution Service Yangeroo. Mark puts these concerns to Sinéad Troy of Yangeroo – after all, it’s only fair that people should know what the money is being spent on.

Meanwhile, Emily Jane of Vernon Jane – who received funding – provides an artists perspective on the scheme and what it will mean to her band going forwards.

Whatever your take on the current situation is, this podcast makes for intriguing listening.

The podcast is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and most other online platforms.

Editor’s note:

GoldenPlec welcomes any changes that make the process of applying for grants easier. We would like to see the general public’s understanding of how and why the monies were allocated made clearer. We hope that the genuine concerns and questions being asked (of which there are many), are listened to, responded to and taken in to consideration for any future / similar grant schemes.
