Tonight in Vicar Street the elite of Irish music gathered for the annual honouring of the album and song of the year awards for the Meteor Choice Prize.

The Script ran out as early winner with Superheroes as the winning song for Irish Song of the Year and logged a video speech which was quite lovely. Genuine hard working guys who are still so very grounded.

The big award of the night is as always the ‘Album of the Year’ award which was contested and judged between Aphex Twin, Delorentos, The Gloaming, Hozier, James Vincent McMorrow, Sinead O’Connor, Damien Rice, The Riptide Movement, U2 and We Cut Corners.

Two time winner Richie Egan from Jape made the all important announcement that The Gloaming have produced the best album of 2014 with their self titled release through Real World.

Congratulations to The Gloaming, we’ll have a live report from the night coming soon.
