Well we hate to see this especially as Dublin has already lost a slew of small venues in recent times with Crawdaddy and The Lower Deck going recently.
Of course Eamonn Dorans isn’t really and option anymore and The Voodoo Lounge is long gone leaving very few small venues around and making venues like Whelans even more important these days.
We really hope this isn’t the end of the Electric Lounge but the statement sounds definitive in itself, terrible to hear. Here is the statement below. What are new bands going to do for a venue now?
As you may already know, we have had to close the door on The Electric Lounge.
Last night, at approximately 10pm we were closed down without warning by the Gardaí during a gig. This was due to a licensing issue that we had no prior knowledge of. We had no reason to assume that we were acting outside of any licensing laws and at this point have still been given no details as to why our venue is now defunct.
We would like to thank everybody who has made the last couple of months a wonderful experience for us, particularly to the artists and those of you who came to support them.
All future events in the venue are cancelled, we cannot apologise enough for this.
Needless to say, this has come as a huge shock to us, as we’re sure it has to you, especially if you have any bookings made with us. Every attempt has been made to contact the holders of all bookings, please check your emails.
