The Chieftains are going to be today FIFTY YEARS next year. That’s just incredible, this is a band that have been together for twice the length of time I’ve been on this planet. That deserves a massive round of applause.
Now that your finished clapping, we have the news that they will be celebrating the 50 years together in The Grand Canal Theatre on Tuesday 29th May 2012. So that’s another one of the gigs for 2012 that are currently starting to rack up quite early. Amongst other honours they have six grammies and are Irelands musical ambassadors in an official capacity and were subject to a tribute show on the Late Late in 1987 for their 25th Anniversary. I wonder if Tubberz will give them a similar honour for 50.
Tickets for the show are €42 inclusive of booking fee available from Ticketmaster.ie and doors are at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Tickets go on sale Friday 24th June.
