Temple House Festival returns this year as winner of the best new festival from last years European festival awards. It takes place on June 10th to 12th over 4 stages in Ballymote in Sligo. There is a capacity of just 5000 so it’s intimate and fun and really chilled out and relaxed atmosphere wise.

The entertainment on offer is as eclectic as it comes with a mixture of alternative & indie rock, reggae, funk, blues, soul, dance, roots, folk, trad, electro and rock & roll.

The Rose Garden
The Rose Gardenwill feature a brilliant programme of Spoken Word on Saturday 11th and Sunday June 12th from 12 to 5 pm.  The Temple House Festival Spoken Word Stage will feature acclaimed novelist and poet Dermot Healy who will be accompanied by fiddle virtuoso Gerry Harrington, The Poetry Divas, The Gonzo Club,  Stewart Agnew & Band, Mikey and the Scallywags and The Wordsmiths featuring Marty Mulligan, Erin Fornscoff & Kalle Ryan and The Shore – piano and poetry by Mart Dyar and Conor Walsh.

The Arts Trail
The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party:  Join the Mad Hatters for a fully inter-active and improvised tea party…. There will be scheduled short performances as well as many random Mad Hatter Happenings during the day.

Story in a Box: A sensory experience where spoken word meets all the senses.

Yarn Bombing: The phenomenon of the graffiti knitting project which has taken the world by storm lands smack in the middle of The Temple House Arts Trail. Drop into the nest and knit a few lines…

Wood Town: Wooden sculptures, Wood crafts displays, hands on workshops and demonstrations.

Belly Dance Performance: East meets West! Lynn our lovely belly dancer will perform on various parts of the arts trail and also give short workshops in the art of the belly dance.

Daredevil: Insane street theatre from Daredevil – the world’s worst acrobat!  Enjoy slapstick physical theatre and absurd comedy as Daredevil leaps from one terrible idea to another.  Nothing is too extreme from the Man Who Has Little or No Fear!  Daredevil!”

One Drunken Knight and Damsel in Dis Dress:   Ooops! Our one drunken knight has had a bit too much to drink – much to the dismay of our damsel in dis dress. She’s looking for a life time of romance and love and all she got was one drunken knight.

Things to look out for: Big Mamma (she really is big!), The Wishing line, The Sand Pit, The Bubbling Bird Bath, The Giggle Tree, Riddle Tree and Wisdom Tree, The interactive mural, Beautiful birds that wander through the garden, The Silly Sports Day, The Hootenanny and The Bedtime Parade.

Useful Things: Little Seeds changing tent, The Lazy beds (Little Chill) –  A place to rest and relax with occupation for little hands, Seats for tired adults and refreshments.

Activities: Movement for parents and children, Music circle, Dance, Kite making, Windmill making, Dancing Bottle Spinners, Floating Octopus, Big Coloredie animals, Animal mask making and Crown making, Felt flower making

Performance: The Brothers Dimm puppets, Fly Tail, Infant Imaginings and Story Telling

Medieval Village
The Medieval village at Temple House will offer a wonderful interaction of living history displays and period tents. Medieval folk, who are in character for the entire weekend, delight in sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge of these fascinating times. Battle re-enactments seem to be a particular favourite!

Archery
Carrowmore Archers are back this year for more tuition and fun. AVOID QUEUING: Book your slot in advance by emailing your preferred day and time to davidnconnell@eircom.net by June 6th. David will check the schedule and confirm if it is available. Payment in advance will be requested.

Camping
Temple House festival-goers will be welcomed to the festival camp site from Friday at noon and will be able to sleep in campervans (www.westcoastcampervans.ie), Yurts, Bell Tents and Tipi’s (www.silkroadtents.com)  situated in the festival grounds, as well as the usual camping options for those on a budget.   The campsite will be open until Monday at noon.

Campervans
There is a dedicated area in the camp site. Trailer tents come under this description too. There is also a dedicated family campervan area in the family area.  Campervans must purchase a campervan ticket in advance from www.ticketmaster.ie

Giglocker
Giglocker provides Storage lockers, Beer/Storage boxes, phone charge facilities and hairdrying facilities in the campsite. www.eventelephant.com/giglockerattemplehouse

Parking
Parking is free at the Temple House Festival – and Temple House has acres of space!

Travel
Irish Rail operates regular train services from Dublin to Ballymote which is just 7 minutes drive to Temple House check out www.irishrail.ie for more info.   Shuttle buses will operate from Ballymote Train station to Temple House.

Bus Eireann will be operating regular shuttle buses from Sligo and Tubbercurry Bus stations to/from Temple House over the festival weekend connecting from Buses from Derry, Dublin and Galway.  Please see www.buseireann.ie for further information.
