Supermodel TwinsReview By Vanessa Monaghan.

So this morning I woke up to Supermodel Twins. Get your mind out of the gutter! I was listening to the band from Limerick.

The pop punk five piece released their debut album at the end of 2010 and it’s quite good. Indie pop punk with flavours of Bowling for Soup and Jimmy Eats World are in good measure throughout.

The pop punk scene in Ireland is on the rise with Jody has a Hitlist, The Shower Scene and Fox Avenue and Supermodel Twins are a good addition to the list. The Cranberries’ Noel Hogan at the controls has done no harm at all and has given the band an instantly marketable sound, even if there is a slight faux American accent dotted in there. On a global scale though, these guys would be able to stand toe to toe with those American pop punk counterparts.

‘Raincloud Free’ is an album with the usual pop punk clichés and sounds but its very listen-able. Tracks range from brash and stalkering ‘One Step Behind’ to the sensitive ‘Bruises’.

There are no world break throughs on this album but Supermodel Twins are very good at what they do, they know their potential teen audience, as shown in their lyrics and write good catchy songs for the genre. To make a breakthrough, the band need to add a dash of their own originality to proceedings. Especially, if they are going to take on upcoming U.S. bands like ‘Forever The Sickest Kids’ and win.

Decent debut, it won’t be the last time I’ll listen to it, looking forward to see how Supermodel Twins grow.
