Heineken Sound Atlas, who brought the “Brooklyn Block Party” to Electric Picnic last year, have announced that they will be returning this EP and bringing the sounds of the Tokyo underground dance scene with them.

If you’re not familiar with #SoundAtlas, basically they sent a team to the streets of Tokyo to make a documentary about the dance scene there, and now they’ll be turning their own patch of EP into their impression of the Tokyo underground. The project was largely inspired by the Fueiho or “no-dancing” laws that were only recently abolished in Tokyo, which prohibited dancing in nightclubs after midnight. This law – apparently inspired by hit ‘80s musical drama Footloose – led to the development of a massive underground illegal dance scene.

Super cool and interesting, right? The “Sound Atlas Tokyo” which will occur at EP, including a Lasershow, Photobooth, and Karaoke stand, could go either way, but there’ll also be a screening of the Sound Atlas Documentary at the festival, featuring live footage from Tokyo nightclubs and interviews with key players from the underground scene (trailer here). It sounds like it’ll actually be a pretty sweet time.

Now all you need to do is get a ticket to Electric Picnic. HEINEKEN! HELP!
