Belfast pop singer/songwriter Scott Mac is delighted to announce the release of his brand new single They Don’t Know, the second release from his upcoming EP ‘A 21st Century Romance’.
The track is a follow-up to his previous single On Your Mind, and follows a series of singles ever since the release of his debut Honey in 2020. Doused in pure pop delighted, the Northern Irish artist recently announced a headline show in Belfast’s Black Box which has now SOLD OUT. With support from BBC Introducing, BBC radio Ulster, Cool FM, strong organic growth on Spotify (25k listeners) and Tik Tok (15k followers, 500,000 views), Scott Mac stands primed for an explosion with his latest single, which melds the old and new with deft ease.
“I’ve always wanted to write an 80’s pop sounding track, and I felt that this EP was my chance,” Mac explains of the single. “I had the image of me running around on stage with my pink guitar in a pink suit while writing this track, and I feel like this is reflected in the sound. I was listening to a lot of 80’s pop and rock during the writing process, and with the return of the 80’s pop sound in modern day music I wanted to write a song that was fun and embodied the overall recurring themes of the record”.
“The music I’ve been writing recently has been heavily influenced by The 1975, Lauv and indie pop artists that I love to listen to and get inspiration from” Mac adds of his inspirations, “With this recent EP project ‘A 21st Century Romance’ I wanted to try and capture the ins and outs of what goes through your mind during a modern relationship, as well as relationships with friends and family and with yourself. I feel like my most honest songwriting to date has went into this EP, with most of the tracks being written and recorded during the lockdowns, it was really my only way to stay busy and have a creative output”.
A lot has changed for Scott since the release of Honey last year, including the addition of a publishing deal to the mix, with Unified Songs signing him to a songwriting contract. “I have been writing for lots of different artists in many different genres which has really helped to change the way I write for the better,” Mac elaborates of his journey. “I really feel like my music is going to continue down the path of the sounds in ‘They Don’t Really Know You’. I am a massive fan of the 80s style making a comeback recently with artists like Dayglow, and it’s the style of music where I have the most fun writing”.
As for what he wants listeners to take from the track? It’s all about having fun. “I want people to have fun with it and for them to listen to the lyrics and create some sort of emotion and take something away from listening to it. This EP is very personal, so I am very interested to see how it goes down and what people make of it”.
