Irish hip hop pioneers Scary Éire are set to make a special appearance at Electric Picnic this weekend. The original bad boys of the scene, they were the first Irish rap act to be signed to a major label (Island Records). Fusing punk, trad, reggae, and ska, Scary Éire were a product of a bleak Ireland, but their gigs were riotous, calling out the dark underbelly of Irish life in the early nineties.

During their career they opened for Madness, Beastie Boys, House of Pain and U2, and worked with renowned artists like Tricky, Jah Shaka and Howie B.

Scary Éire reunited for the first time in years this past Paddy’s day for a sold out show, (photos here). Scary Éire will play The Salty Dog stage at Electric Picnic at 1am on Friday.
