Garth Knox’s Saltarello Trio will pack a thousand years into one night on their upcoming Irish tour by tracing a path from from Hildegard Von Bingen to David Fennessy, with special appreciation paid to the work of Dowland, Vivaldi and Purcell along the way.

The Trio of Garth Knox (medieval fiddle/viola d’amore/viola), Sylvain Lemêtre (percussion), and Agnès Vesterman (cello) are all familiar to Irish audiences, thanks to their vast experience in the fields of classical and contemporary music, but for this tour they seek out the colours and textures of folk music to inform their witty arrangements highlighting the connections and similarities that exist between the soundworlds of today and of hundreds of years ago.

The tour will also feature a new composition by Garth Knox (specially commissioned by Music Network), that sits across the centuries, mediating between past and present with the trio’s gorgeous swirling string lines and percussion opening a new window on old music, proving that a good tune can speak easily to all of us, no matter what the language, no matter when the time.
