Irish based rock guitar virtuosos Rodrigo y Gabriela have commented on their GRAMMY win for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the 62nd GRAMMY Awards ceremony. The award was given for Rodrigo y Gabriela’s latest album ‘METTALVOLUTION’, (Rubyworks).

Gabriela Quintero says: “We are incredibly thankful. This is quite a moment for us. After twenty years of career, and having played all over the world, even for President Obama in The White House, there was something missing, which was a Grammy. We finally got it. Rodrigo and I are people that care about many of the challenges that we are facing as a species, ‘Mettavolution’ is an album about change and growth. Through music, we truly believe that we can share, at an emotional level, healing and to bring about ideas that might help to solve a lot of those challenges.”

Rodrigo Sanchez adds: “To all the fans around the world for supporting our music – we love you all and we can’t wait to go back to work to keep making music that inspires you.”

‘METTAVOLUTION’ entered Billboard’s “Americana/Folk Albums” chart at #1 and #2 on Billboard’s “Rock Albums,” as well as #10 on “Top Album Sales” and #71 on the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200.

Rubyworks label founder Niall Muckian is also delighted with the win. “Having worked with Rod and Gab since they arrived in Ireland, they’ve really earned this award. They’ve travelled a long way from busking on Grafton Street and are a living testament to the power of hard graft, following their own path and boundless imagination.”

Rodrigo y Gabriela followed up their Grammy-winning album with new EP ‘Metal’ earlier this month which sees the group tackle metal classics by Metalica and Slayer.
