Rising star shiv has today released her highly anticipated debut album, the defiance of a sadgirl. The album comes five years after she dropped her debut single ‘Here’, in June of 2019.

The eagerly awaited album comes after a transformative period in her life, marked by breakups, a move to a new country, and a transition away from her management and label. The album, crafted during a two-month retreat in Uganda, explores themes of self-love, self-acceptance, and the quest to reconnect with a deeper sense of joy and authenticity. Collaborating with the Irish band Bricknasty and executive co-producer Adam Shanahan, shiv has created a piece of work rich in emotion and personal insight which showcases the depth and evolution of her artistry.

Born in Zimbabwe and raised in Ireland, shiv has seamlessly blended her diverse musical influences into a unique sound that fuses R&B, Low-Fi Hip Hop, and soulful undertones.

From a young age, her life has been deeply intertwined with music, starting with harmonizing with her mother and jamming to 90s R&B with her sister. Despite initially pursuing a career in Educational Psychology, shiv’s passion for music took centre stage after her heartfelt Maid of Honour speech, shared on YouTube, caught the attention of Dublin-based managers.

Shiv’s remarkable journey includes over 20 million streams on Spotify and notable collaborations, including the successful single “Never Ever Ever” with Girls of the Internet. Her collaborations with renowned Irish rapper Kojaque and virtuoso James Vincent McMorrow have further solidified her place in the music industry. Her recent deal with Warner Music Ireland led to several successful singles, but shiv has since embraced independence once again, working closely with her sister to manage her career.

Shiv is set to mark the album’s release tonight with a special event in The Sugar Club, featuring her co-writers and instrumentalists Bricknasty, along with other musical guests. The show promises to be a memorable celebration of her album’s release.

Tickets for the show are €15 and on sale now from thesugarclub.com
